Member Information

This Board is established pursuant to NJ.S.A. 40:55D-23. It consists of nine members consisting of four classes:

  • Class I. - The Mayor
  • Class II - One of the officials of the municipality other than a member of the Governing Body provided that, if there is an Environmental Commission, the member of the Environmental Commission who is also a member of the Planning Board shall be the Class II member if there is both a member of the Zoning Board and a member of the Boardd of Education among the Class IV members.
  • Class III - A member of the Governing Body
  • Class IV - Six other citizens of Sparta. Members of Class IV shall hold no other office except one may be a member of the Zoning Board and one may be a member of the Board of Education.

About the Board

The Planning Board hears land development applications including Minor Subdivisions, Major Subdivisions, and Site Plans. They also update the Zoning ordinances and the Master Plan. The Board consists of nine regular members and two alternates and meets on the first and third Wednesdays of each month.
